"The Xerox Success Story - a Blueprint for Every American Business." "This highly instructive case history is to be studied by everey manager whose company - large or small - is fighting the competitive battle in today's tough global markets." - Robert Anderson, Chairman of the Board and CEO, Rockwell International Corporation. "Should be required reading for every U.S. firm facing international competition. The Xerox story has lessons for all American Businessmen. Each can be better off by following the practices so ably developed by Xerox's David Kearns and his team, and so thoughtfully portrayed in this book." - Bruce Smart, Under Secretary of International Trade, U.S. Department of Commerce. "A remarkable book about clear-sighted, hard-headed, driving corporate leadership, and the exciting results it can produce. All those interested in our international economic strength will find this essential reading." - Frank H.T. Rhodes, President, Cornell University. "In Xerox: American Samurai, we learn how one courageous American company managed on its own - without benefit of federal bailout or protective tariff - to successfully combat the "Japanese challenge." It is a dramatic story with vital lessons for everyone concerned about our country's ability to preserve its economic supremacy. Veteran journalists and longtime Xerox observers Gary Jacobson and John Hillkirk brilliantly explore the frontlines of one of today's most fiercely contested international battlegrounds - the worldwide copier industry. They expose the inner workings of muli-miillion-dollar corporate giants both here and in Japan, vying on every continent to capture a larger share of this growing market that already involves the making of billions of copies daily. Xerox: American Samurai tells the story of the people who are putting Xerox's new strategy into action. Through firsthand accounts of closed-door confereneces at Xerox and behind-the-scenes operations of Japan's new super-factories, this is the riveting account of how top management at Xerox mustered the strength to battle the competition. Gary Jacobson and John Hillkirk first broke the news of Xerox's comeback, a development neglected by most business observers. Now, they go beyond the headlines to tell the full, rough-and-tumble story: COMPETITIVE EDGE: How Xerox turned the tables on the Japanese by making the philosophy of Dantotso, Japanese for "best of the best," the cornerstone of their own worldwide resurgence; NEW LEADERSHIP: The new Xerox in action, on a swing through Europe with Wayland Hicks, chief of the copier division, as he preaches the hard-driving Xerox gospel of success; "CAN DO" AMERICAN STYLE: How Xerox's experience in fending off the Japanese brings to light ten uniquely American techniques that can turn any business around; SHATTERED MYTHS: A rare inside view of ten Japanese factories that dispels the myths about Japan's industrial supremacy and reveals the true secrets behind their success. Above all, Xerox: American Samurai is much more than a business book: It is a fascinating tale of people and their will to win. It is a book that every American will want to read." - from the inner front and rear jacket flaps.

Description: 128 p. Illustrations. Picture sources. Index. From WIkipedia: "Ada Louise Huxtable (née Landman; March 14, 1921 January 7, 2013) was an architecture critic and writer on architecture. In 1970 she was awarded the first ever Pulitzer Prize for Criticism. The esteemed architecture critic Paul Goldberger, also a Pulitzer Prize-winner for architectural criticism, said of Huxtable: "Before Ada Louise Huxtable, architecture was not a part of the public dialogue." "She was a great lover of cities, a great preservationist and the central planet around which every other critic revolved, " said architect Robert A. M. Stern, dean of the Yale University School of Architecture. "Not that Penn Station is the Parthenon, " Ada Louise Huxtable wrote, "but it might as well be because we can never again afford a nine-acre structure of superbly detailed travertine, any more than we could build one of solid gold. It is a monument to the lost art of magnificent construction, other values aside." Huxtable was born and died in New York City, New York. Her father, the physician Michael Landman, was co-author (with his brother, Rabbi Isaac Landman) of the play A Man of Honor. Ada Louise Landman received an A. B. (magna cum laude) from Hunter College, CUNY in 1941. In 1942, she married industrial designer L. Garth Huxtable, and continued graduate study at New York University from 1942 to 1950. She served as Curatorial Assistant for Architecture and Design at the Museum of Modern Art in New York from 1946 to 1950. She was a contributing editor to Progressive Architecture and Art in America from 1950 to 1963 before being named the first architecture critic at The New York Times, a post she held from 1963 to 1982. She has received grants from the Graham Foundation for a number of projects, including the book Will They Ever Finish Bruckner Boulevard? . She was the architecture critic for The Wall Street Journal, a position she took up in 1997. John Costonis, writing of how public aesthetics is shaped, used her as a prime example of an influential media critic, remarking that "the continuing barrage fired from [her] Sunday column.had New York developers, politicians, and bureaucrats, ducking for years." He reproduces a cartoon in which construction workers, at the base of a building site with a foundation and a few girders lament that "Ada Louise Huxtable already doesn't like it! " Carter Wiseman writes, "Huxtable's insistence on intellectual rigor and high design standards made her the conscience of the national architectural community." She wrote over ten books on architecture, including a 2004 biography of Frank Lloyd Wright for the Penguin Lives series. She was credited as one of the main forces behind the founding of the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission in 1965. Ada Louise Huxtable's papers have been acquired by the Getty Research Institute. Ada Louise Huxtable's oral biography is included in "Particular Passions: Talk With Women Who Shaped Our Times."." Fair. Cover has some wear and soiling. Top of spine torn. First edition. First Edition [stated]. Presumed first printing.

Description: This catalogue and exhibit of Robert Frank's work was organized by the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. The exhibit traveled from the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston to Cleveland Museum of Art, The Minneapolis Institute of Art, The Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the University Art Museum of California at Berkley. The front flap indicates there are 21 duotone, 5 halftones, and 4 color illustrations included in this 112 page volume. The boards are covered in a dark blue cloth and have light gray lettering on the spine. The book is approximately 9 1/4 by 12 1/4 inches. There is some wear to the front board, e.g. some color loss, but the spine ends remain stiff and edges minimally worn. The dust jacket has several tears at the bottom edge of the front panel and wear at the bottom edge to the front flap fold. There is also a tear at the top edge of the back panel. The back panel also presents as soiled and there is a vertical line near the spine area the front cover which shows color loss from head to foot to the blue, red and yellow areas-it appears to be in the vicinity of the hinge and may be a result of opening the book. The dust jacket is currently protected by a clear removable cover. Internally, this book is clean, bright, and without marks, previous owners' names, or damage to any of the pages. The edges remain bright white. Please look at images of the book carefully, thank you.

This is an original and compelling portrait that traces Frank's life and career from 1947 to [1986], including milestones such as his withdrawal from still photography to make films, and his move from New York to Nova Scotia. The experience behind THE AMERICANS emerges here. Frank's own words evoke the challenge as well as the isolation and the exhaustion of that journey.". First Edition (so stated). Oversize Hardcover. Fine condition/Very Good+ dust jacket. 112pp.

Description: Square 4to. 279 pp. Includes Biographical Notes; Exhibitions; Bibliography; Checklist of Paintings. Illustrations throughought, most in color. A fine copy in fine dustjacket. Frank Stella is an Italian American painter and printmaker, significant in the art movement called "post-painterly abstraction". His early works anticipates many elements of minimalism, which is why he is also considered by some a minimalist, although most of his later artworks are not strictly minimalist. Compiled by Lawrence Rubin, this catalogue raisonne records all 263 paintings of the early period, plus 11 student works never exhibited or published before. Robert Roseblum introduces the book, explaining and illustrating the dialogue that Stella has always maintained with art history and with other important artists.

Firma autografa dell'Autore al frontespizio (Signed by the Author to the title-page). Ottimo (Fine). . Prima edizione (First Edition. First Printing). . "This country is really a free country. A person can do what he wants. Nobody asks to see your identification or your papers. The people here have representatives from every race and every nation. Whether you have been here for eight days or eight years, you are always treated like an American! There is only one thing you should not do, criticize anything. The Americans are extremely proud of their country! The whole way of life here is based on saving time. Only fast and as simple as possible. Bus, streetcar, and subway all cost the same amount, and tickets are not necessary. Doors open by themselves, newspapers are read and thrown away and then are immediately burned by street cleaners, on the open street in giant wastebaskets. There are no garbage cans, everything goes down an individual chute and is burned directly. Mailboxes are too small, so you have to place packages by the side of the street and they are picked up every 10 minutes, etc., etc. Nothig is impossible. They have electric toothbrushes and nail clippers, etc. In 10 minutes you have eaten and there are three men standing behind you, waiting for you to leave (not in the expensive restaurants). I can only tell you this: you have to see for yourself. I would not want to live here forever. For older people who do not have much $, it is terrible here. Nobody has any consideration for anybody else. Old or young, man or woman, here it is everyone for himself"(da una lettera, riprodotta nel volume e tradotta dal tedesco in inglese, che Robert Frank inviò ai genitori nel marzo 1947). Prima edizione (First Edition. First Printing).
