Price: US$86.40 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: This seventh edition of the monumental work by William Dixon is in perhaps in a little less than very good condition although for two volumes of this age there is to be expected some time wear. This edition is bound in blue cloth over boards with embossed designs on front and back and gilt lettering on the spine. The covers are still very good though the corners on both volumes have been bumped and worn although not severely. All in all the exterior binding is of very nice assemblage. The interiors do have several condition notes to be given. Volume One has a penciled name written on the front fly leaf, and a very few stains scattered throughout the book. The tissue guards are intact on the illustrative plates. Volume Two shows some discoloration on both the front pastedown and the ffep - - from what source cannot be determined. There is a very small quarter inch chip out of the ffep. The rear hinge on Volume Two is weakening and just a small bit exposed but still firmly holding and secure. Several of the tea signatures in the volume are loosening but are still fully intact. This is original text and is neither copied nor reprinted by any fashion. These volumes give an absorbing look at the United States immediately the Civil War where spiritual questing was still very prominent and groups of varied beliefs and approaches combined to form their own religious sects. These books the Shakers, the Mormons, the Oneida community, as well as American Indian beliefs and the place of women in social communities.
