Emilie Sussman. My Trip to Yosemite: From the Journal of Emilie Sussman. Grabhorn Press, 1939.

Price: US$449.95 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: 1939 signed and inscribed limited edition (60 copies), The Grabhorn Press (San Francisco, Calif.), 7 x 9 3/4 inches tall hardbound, exposed wood boards over orange cloth spine, orange lettering to front cover, printed on laid paper untrimmed, title and first page in red and black ink, engraved embellishments, 7 pp. plus colophon. Signed on title page by author ('Emilie Sussman nee Wormser') and inscribed to a friend in the month and year of issue (Feb. 19, 1939), 'in memory of so many past days.' Wood boards are rubbed, mildly chipped and edgeworn, especially at tips. Otherwise, apart from mild age toning to the paper, a very good copy of this scarce issue and outstanding specimen of this era of Grabhorn Press craftsmanship. ~O~ We know very little about Emilie Sussman (1856-1926), except that she would have been just sixteen years old when she had her big trip to Yosemite in 1872. In 1920, Edwin and Robert Grabhorn established their press in 1929, and by the time this was produced in 1939, were well known for their skills, especially with fine press editions like this.
