Hinges tight, interior pages bright. Moderate edge wear/tear/bumping to the board extremities. Uncommon in such a nice designer leather binding.

This book was published posthumously on the basis of Duncan's handwritten text and illustrated with 24 black and white photographs of her (two by Arnold Genthe). As one of the great free spirits of the early 20th century, Duncan's account of her life was as uninhibited as her career. This is one of the "presentation copies" published as a limited edition for authors and other friends of Boni and Liveright. In black cloth boards with red leather label titled in gilt on spine. Light rubbing to boards, wear to spine ends, and chips and tears to title label. Cracked hinges although text block is still tight. Clean interior. Very good. 359 pages. DRA/081022.

Description: Blue cloth satmped in darker blue and gilt. INSCRIBED ON THE FRONT PASTEDOWN, "TO ________/ IN DEVOTED SYMPATHIES, VERY CORDIALLY/ MORIZ ROSENTHAL/ NEW YORK, MAY 3rd, 1928". Later printing. It is unclear as to why the famed concert pianist and pupil of Franz Liszt inscribed this copy of Duncan's autobiography with such sentiment but nonetheless, the inscription is in bold black ink on the front pastedown. A newspaper obituary of Rosenthal from 1946 is affixed to the front free endpaper opposite the inscription, causing some minor offsetting. Very good. No jacket.

Exceedingly scarce in jacket. 1927 owner's inscription; some mottling of preliminaries, covers a trifle marked, just about fine in rare dust jacket, spine faded a shade, with a chip across its crown and a one-inch scratch that has penetrated through the paper and removed the last letters of the author's first and last names; rear panel toned at edges.
