Inscribed on the endpaper from Frederick Skiff-Field to W. K. Bixby who in turn inscribed it to his daughter "Emma & Albert. Xmas 1925. Pass along to some of your children later on. Father. I first heard Eugene recite some of these poems in 1st Cong. Church St. Louis many years ago." It was in 1905 that Bixby had privately published Field's "My Book to William C. Buskett with the Affectionate Regards of His Friend, Eugene Field." Buskett sold the original manuscript to Bixby the previous year.
