Description: I'm guessing that you are already familiar with this wonderful little picture book, and know something of its curious story and its dreamlike pictures; so on to condition and edition. This is either a first edition in a second issue dust jacket, or a very early reprint. The book has the copyright date of 1962 with no additional dates listed. The dust jacket is price-clipped, has the code "40-80" on front flap, has an early review of the book by Paul Williams on the rear flap, and has no Caldecott Medal Honor Book sticker. There is a slight indentation and faint stain on the front board and the spine shows a little wear at ends. Otherwise a very good copy indeed, internally very clean. The very good, clipped dust jacket has a small stain on front panel and top of front flap, is slightly worn at spine ends, and has one or two edge nicks. A very nice copy of this well-known picture book.

Description: VG/G+. Probable first edition, with correct points per Hanrahan A52 but no price to seal the deal (price clipped). However, the absence of the 1963 Caldecott seal hints at an early if not a first printing. Pictorial boards have almost no wear. Corners are still sharp. Very clean. Hinges and binding are tight. There is a 1.5" by .75" stain on ffep possibly from a sticker. The title page has faint foxing on left side. A black marker was used to draw a short line at bottom outside pages and this has bled onto the bottom edges inside, but it is very narrow and not very noticable. The matching dust jacket is clipped at all four flap corners. The spine is rubbed and there is a small chip and tear at top edge. It is in mylar.
