Red boards with black lettering to spine are very good with a little pushing/bumping to corners, one small (approx. 1cm) scratch/scrape to spine, the odd small mark, a little patchy fading (including to spine), the odd small bump/rub to edges and a little wear (pushing/rubbing/slight fraying to the cloth) to head/tail of spine. Pages are generally clean and the binding is tight. Odd small mark/mild foxing to page edges, tops and bottoms. Pages little tanned. Occasional small mark/scattered foxing to pages. No other faults. Description: This First Edition and first printing hardback was published by Chapman & Hall in the UK in 1936. The condition of the book is 'Near Fine'. There is no dust-jacket. The book is bound with the uniform series binding of black and red snake-skin design. There are no inscriptions etc on the pages of the book. The condition of all the pages is 'Fine' subject to mild tanning of the outside edges. The spine titles are in gilt. The book has 237 numbered pages. At some stage the endpapers had a narrow backing applied to the hinges. There is a jolly full-page illustration facing the title page. The size of the book in inches is 7.5 x 5.2 and it weighs 0.39 kg. Overall the book is in the most attractive condition we have seen over the years from the author's 1930's First Editions. In very good condition, the binding is straight and tight and the lettering on the spine bright. Crease to the spine. There are some marks to the front and back boards, small nicks to the top and bottom edges of the spine and shelf wear to the corners. The end papers and pages are free from marks, tears or inscriptions. Will be dispatched wrapped in bubblewrap and in a cardboard box.
