Description: MOTHER GOOSE IN PROSE, Way & Williams, 1897, first edition, end-papers replaced, some modest wear and tear with some cloth loss to the extremities of the somewhat tanned spine with the spine lettering being dulled, some wear with board exposure to three of the four fore edge corner tips, slight scattered foxing to the front and rear covers, else a near vg copy with at least vg+ contents with both covers exhibiting bright full color illustrations by Maxfield Parrish who also supplies 12 full page black & white interior plates as well. The first children's book for both author and artist; one of the happy coincidences of literature.

Description: Uncommon true first edition, the more common edition printed by George M. Hill in 1901. Baum's first children's book, and the first to introduce a character called Dorothy who presages the central character in the Oz books. Also, Parrish's first illustrated book. Cream cloth modesty soiled. The (presumed) original owner, whose name with 1899 date is on the ffe, has noted in black ink on the cover above Baum's name "Pictures by - Maxfield Parrish". Printed at The Lakesie Press. Internally crisp and clean.
