Description: Published by Chatto and Windus in 1964, here is the first hardback printing of William Faulkner's MOSQUITOES. Slate grey cloth binding, gilt lettering, 288 pages, the book is in very good condition with some light browning to the page edges, plus the name of a previous owner (the revered Oxford scholar Anthony Cockshut) written in pencil to the front free end paper. The red/ purple pictorial dust jacket is good to very good with some rubbing/ chipping at the top of the spine. plus some light staining to the covers and some minor browning to the edges and folds. A super little book.

Blue ink name and date to the head of the front endpaper. A little spotting to the front endpaper. The jacket has not been price-clipped but has some rubbing to the head of the spine, to several corners. There is an open nick to one corner of the jacket and an expertly closed nick to another one and to the head of the rear panel. A very good, first edition copy.

Whitehand is an author but is better known as author/biographer Russell Braddon's manager and close friend until Braddon's death a couple of years ago. The jacket is NEAR FINE (a touch of tanning to the spine,light age soiling and one short closed tear). A difficult book to find in nice condition in ANY edition!

Opening in New Orleans, the novel proceeds with the story of a boat trip among the Florida Keys on board the yacht of a pompous "culture vulture" and peopled by variosu artistic and not-so-artistic types. Not published in the U.K. until this edition.
