Heinlein, Robert A. THE MOON IS A HARSH MISTRESS (1st issue DJ $5.95). G. P. Putnam's Sons, New York, 1966.

Price: US$825.00 + shipping

Condition: Near Fine

Description: G. P. Putnam's Sons. New York. 1966. 383 pages. NF/VG. DJ is a 1st printing. Book is a 7th printing. Original 1st printing DJ with $5.95 price intact on flap. DJ is bright and nice. No stamps or stickers to DJ. No fading to DJ spine. DJ was preserved for 45 years under a wrapper and under the wrapper was this beauty, without any label stickers or darkening/fading. Inside flaps show small tape ghosts or fragments of leftover scotch tape from which the DJ was once adhered to protector. Hardly a flaw as again, this is only on the inside flaps. The DJ does show general rubbing, a few edge creases and some smaller light blemishes to the rear of DJ that has white borders framing a photo of heinlein. This is a perfect candidate for someone looking to marry their first printing to this 1st issue DJ. The $5.95 priced DJ is scarce. As for the book that was married to this DJ, it is NF. Not much keeping this copy from grading nearly fine. very light, faint soiling (if any) to page edges. Tight and clean. 7th printing. Book appears unread. Pages lay tight. A tiny, faint spot of discoloration along edge of cloth panel. Endpapers are bright and clean. This is a very nice copy.

Heinlein, Robert A.. THE MOON IS A HARSH MISTRESS. G. P. Putnam's Sons, New York, 1966.

Price: US$3750.00 + shipping

Description: Octavo, cloth. First edition. "This account of a revolution in a former lunar penal colony is essentially a retelling of the American War of Independence in SF terms. The hero narrates it all in a vigorous futuristic dialect. There is copious background detail and some interesting political and sociological speculation -- but, as with all the author's later books, the text is full of talk. Nevertheless, with its intelligent computer called Mycroft (after Sherlock Holmes's brother) and its by-now famous slogan "TANSTAAFL" (there ain't no such thing as a free lunch), it's entertaining enough. Heinlein's last decent novel." - Pringle, The Ultimate Guide to Science Fiction, second edition (1995), p. 244. Winner of the 1967 Hugo award for best novel. 1966 Nebula nominee. Anatomy of Wonder (2004) II-512. Survey of Science Fiction Literature III, pp. 1439-43. A fine copy in very good plus first printing dust jacket (priced $5.95 on the front flap) with light wear and shallow associated creases at lower spine end, mild rubbing to upper spine end and front corner tips, mild rubbing along lower front spine fold, 19 mm closed tear at lower edge near spine fold, and some mild soiling to rear panel. An attractive example of the jacket overall. (#133434)
