Description: A beautiful edition of this classic novel of adventure and obsession on the high seas. Illustrated by Anton Otto Fischer. The cover has a lovely color picture on the front board. The rest of the boards and spine are covered with green cloth, somewhat worn, with gilt lettering on the spine. The binding is still strong. The pages are clean, slightly tanned, with many more full color illustrations throughout. The dust jacket is missing the front inside flap.

Description: Published by The John C. Winston Company, 1931. The Children's Bookshelf edition, illustrated by Anton Otto Fischer. With an introduction by William McFee and notes by M. D. Holmes. Featuring 7 illustrations, 2 in color. Illustrated endpapers, illustrated frontispiece with gilt border and matching illustrated jacket. Dark blue wraps are in wonderful condition aside from bumped lower corners, shelf wear to head and tail of spine, and a few small white marks to back cover and one on lower spine. Gilt is nice and bright with a little chipping to lower spine and head of spine. Frontispiece is beautifully bright with a little rubbing/wear to lower edge. Front hinge is starting after half title page with mesh exposed. Rear hinge starting at end papers. Interior is age-toned. Bottom of text block has some soiling, top edge red-staining is sunned. The jacket is in fair condition with chipping to edges, some loss to tail of spine, and a chunk missing from head of spine and upper corners of front cover. Back cover is fully torn diagonally about 1/4 from flap, but still present and now covered in mylar. Both flaps are intact but age-toned.

Description: Offered here is the Winston Edition of 1931, beautifully illustrated by Anton Otto Fischer with a full color frontispiece, two full color plates, five black and white plates, illustrated dust jacket, matching front board paste-on and end papers. The book grades to VERY GOOD PLUS: very sound binding, slightly rounded spine, bright gilt on spine and bright plate with three small spots of missing gilt around the gilt border. Four small stains on the bottom of the text block, front clean, red top-stain intact. Internally clean and entirely unmarked. The dust jacket is merely FAIR, with chipping at the top and bottom of spine, creases and wear around the extremities. The jacket is encased in archival Brodart. All our books ship bundled in multiple layers of bubble wrap inside a sturdy box.

Illustrated endpapers. Color plate on front board; green cloth stamped in gold. Flyleaf has a vintage neatly written gift inscription, dated 1943. Inscription recipient has stamped his name on front and rear endpapers. DJ shows shelf-rubbing along edges with a small closed edge tear on rear. A very nice vintage copy of the classic, in its original, uncommon DJ.
