A very good copy in the original wrappers."This edition seems to have been prepared by the author himself. It contains more material than the edition in English, the illustrations are different, and the three maps are entirely new" (Sabin). The maps are of the new territory of Oregon, the source of the Colombia River, and the source of the Tete-Plat. Most of the illustrations concern native Americans and missions. Graff 3827. The first edition in French of De Smet's OREGON MISSIONS AND TRAVELS OVER THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS., detailing his various trips through eastern Washington, and a trip via the source of the Columbia to Athabasca and the Assiniboine Country. This edition contains some material not present in the English edition, most importantly the maps. A large map of Oregon, and maps of the sources of the Columbia and Platte rivers, adorn this edition and are called by Wheat, "basic contributions to the geographical knowledge of the Northwest."
