Very Good+/ No Dust Cover 6 3/4 X 8 3/4", 35 pages. Not paginated. 1933. True First Edition with red spine. Cover of color illustrated paper over boards. Cover has slight rub wear and very slight corner bumps, but very clean and bright with no sunning. Boards are very slightly bowed, probably due to the thickness of the POP-UPS. Interior is bright, clean, tight and very good+ to near fine. Three color POP-UPS adorn this wonderful copy. Of course Mickey is part of the story. All are bright and complete. The first and last are perfect. The middle POP-UP, by far the most intricate, is perfect but has two extra fold lines on Minnie's feet. Very small imperfection. Last page has a small corner fold at the bottom edge. This copy is in amazing condition, probably never in the hands of a child. ALMOST FINE and Issued without dust jacket.

Color pictorial glazed paper covered boards with a minute touch of wear to the tail of spine and slight darkening to the edges for what is a very lovely copy of the book. [34] pp. including endpapers. There is a Waldorf-Astoria bookplate on the back side of the back free endpaper indicating that this book was presented to a lucky young lady on the occasion of her eighth birthday by the New York landmark. With the help of various animal friends, Mickey and Minnie Mouse save a newly hatched duckling from a hungry hawk. The story is illustrated throughout with black and white drawings, both full page and within text. Additionally, there are three beautiful full color double page pop-up illustrations of which the illustrations and the paper engineering have been attributed to C. Carey Cloud. Description: Glorious early Disney pop-up "presented by" Mickey Mouse in the original dust jacket, part of the pioneering Blue Ribbon movable book project that gave pop-ups their official name. In her study of movable books, Jacqueline Reid-Walsh says that "the term 'pop-up book' is a modern one of American coinage that emerged in the 1930s when Blue Ribbon Publishing worked with the Disney studio to loosely adapt popular fairy tales into a movable book format." (Ellen Rubin notes a ca. 1912 British "Pop-Up Book," not widely known but predating this; Blue Ribbon introduced the term into copyright.) For this ambitious paper engineering project, Disney chose two shorts from their animated SILLY SYMPHONIES, "Babes in the Woods" and "King Neptune." "Babes in the Woods," based on a Brothers Grimm work, shows the company's early experimentation with classic fairy tales before their pivotal first full-length feature film (also from Grimm): SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS (1937). "King Neptune" was an original story conceived to lavishly show off the underwater fantasy setting in Technicolor, and now in 3D paper construction. A delicate book, it is difficult to find in nice condition, complete with the original dust jacket and all pop-ups intact. 9.5'' x 7.25''. Original color pictorial boards. In original color pictorial dust jacket. Pictorial endpapers. Illustrated with full page and in-text color images and 4 glorious double-page pop-ups (illustrated front and back). 48 pages. Jacket somewhat soiled, with moderate chipping to spine ends (affecting first word at spine head) and a few small closed tears (one repaired with tape on verso).
