Illustrated with 24 plates in colour and illustrated end papers and title page. 2 text pages have repairs and there are stains at front and back not affecting illustrations. there is foxing to text pages and wear to covers and edges, hinges a little tender, spine worn and at top and foot of spine in places. but overall a very acceptable copy of an attractive and scarce Doggie work.

Description: First edition nd but BL gives 1911. 9¾ x 11¼". Book is in poor condition: back missing, boards badly scuffed and some pages disbound. Foxing to some text pages and the title page. Some text pages torn in half with parts missing. 23 (of 24) plates present. But plates are clean and bright. Pl. 5 has small stain, 12 has a 1" closed tear, 16 has tape along left hand edge. Thus although the book is falling to bits there are 23 frameable prints by Aldin from 1911. Photographs show all full-page prints as a montage.

Description: 1st edition. Hardcover. Original brown boards with inset Aldin painting of the two eponymous dogs (one British, the other German), lettered in orange, plain cloth spine, some marks mostly to rear board, front hinge a little tender, corners a little bumped, faint name on half-title. Endpapers, text pages and full-page colour illustrations all clean and tidy, no foxing. In sum, a very decent copy of this scarce early Cecil Aldin title.
