Description: Inscribed "Mr. & Mrs. E. B. Butler with regards of W. K. Bixby St Louis 2/20/23" on front endpaper. 1/250. Quarto. Unpaginated. Original green quarter-cloth over illustrated paper-covered boards with black lettering and decorative ruling on cream label of cover. Illustrated title page printed in red and black. Illustrated colophon. "This letter, written by Martha Washington to Mrs. Frances Washington, widow of George Augustus Washington, is perhaps the best letter of hers in existence." (Bixby). Three-page facsimile letter with addressee and sender on fourth page, followed by transcription of the letter. Binding with very light wear along edges. Sporadic light foxing at foredge. Binding and interior in overall very good condition.
