Condition: Good

Description: Previous owners signature (Henry Siebert, Oct. 25 1873) present on front end-paper and name stamped on front free-end paper and inside front cover, this is the second issue of the first edition, still a difficult book to find. The spine and spine hinges were covered with an archival type paper to reinforce the spine hinges , which show signes of splitting. Some of that paper covering has chipped off the spine itself revealing the original green cloth binding, the appearance is really not that bad. 47 pages plus one-page ad in the back for the Galaxy Magazine, which Mark Twain sometimes supplied articles for. Humorous illustrations, book overall is in really nice condition with a nice stamped design around the borders of front and rear covers. 47 pp plus one page of ads at the rear of the book.

Condition: Near Fine

Description: 1871 Mark Twain 1st Burlesque Autobiography and First Romance Illustrated A scarce first edition of Mark Twain’s comedic work entitled, ‘Mark Twain’s (Burlesque) Autobiography and First Romance.’ A curious collection of two short fictional stories with no connection to Twain’s real life. The first work is a humorous fabrication of Twain’s heritage and the ridiculous characters in his family tree. The second work describes a bizarre fictional struggle for power amongst the nobility in Europe. This book is famous for its unexpectedly abrupt ending, the inexplicable inclusion of illustrations subtitled with the famous nursery rhyme, ‘The House that Jack Built,’ and Twain’s personal disdain for the book following its publication. Two years after being published, Twain famously bought the printing plates and destroyed them. Item number: #30514 Price: $499 TWAIN, Mark Mark Twain’s (Burlesque) Autobiography and First Romance.
