Description: 1936. First Edition. 192 pages. No dust jacket. Red cloth covered boards with silver lettering. Contains black and white photographic plates. New pastedowns and end papers. Pages are moderately tanned and occasionally foxed throughout. Plates are bright and clear. Front free end paper excised. Some occasional moderate cracking to gutters throughout, binding remains reasonably firm. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Mild crushing to spine ends. Book has a slight forward lean. Silver lettering is darkened. Splits to joints at spine head with some fraying to cloth. Cloth has minor damp and dust stains.

The end sheets, preliminaries and fore edge of the text block show mild spots of foxing. Without a dust jacket. 192 pages of text illustrated with a photographic frontispiece and 11 black and white photographs. A very uncommon early title by Forester which focuses on his hobby of marionettes.

Occasional light foxing, previous owner's ink signature on the front free endpaper, the dust jacket is lightly soiled and chipped at the head, heel, and extremities affecting a few letters at the head of the spine. Forester 1936 - Scarce, First Edition, First Printing Antique Hardcover Book with Dust Jacket 7 1/2" x 5 1/2" 192 Pages The jacket is in good minus condition with edge tears, chips and some wrinkling in the front. The jacket has the correct 3/6 net on the spine. The jacket is now protected with a removable Mylar cover. The hardcover book is in good minus condition free from rips, tears, bends, and writing. There is a tiny crack at the gutter on the front end page and there is minor foxing on the page edges and on a few pages. All black and white illustrations are present. The boards are in good minus condition with light edge wear and a bubble on the front board. The binding is tight and square. Inspired by a marionette show he saw, C.S. Forester, a novelist and theatre lover, decided to create his own puppet theatre at home. In Marionettes at Home, first published in 1936, he shares his experience and enthusiasm for amateur puppeteering and takes the reader step-by-step through the stages of creating one's own theatre; from stage construction and puppet making, to acting and production.
