Description: Stated first edition "published Sept. 9, 1938;" deckle edges; map end pages; 657 p., clean and unmarked anywhere; binding tight; sepia boards with gilt lettering on black patch on spine show minimal wear, being well protected by pictorial d.j. that has sustained some injury protecting the volume beneath. The back panel is detached and the tape used to mend it is dry and detaching, leaving stains. Small open tear at crown of spine panel and an small closed tear at upper margin of back panel near corner.

In only a good, price clipped dust jacket with numerous large chips from the spine area and a large 1 1/2" by 3" chip from the front panel. 657 pages including an index, text and illustrated with one two page topographic map with annotations by the author. Following the writing of Arundel, Roberts compiled the journals of the members of Arnold's expedition to Quebec. This volume formed the basis of that research. A valuable original source of information for this early part of the American Revolution. 657 pages including an index.

Description: Near fine in printed, heavy blue paper wraps over a stapled binding with very light rubbing to the spine edge of the cover and with two handwritten, marginal notations on pages 5, 22 and 23. Doubleday Doran normally uses the statement "First Edition" in their books; however, this lacks that typical slug and in 25 years of specializing in Roberts' books we have yet to see a copy with that statement. Signed and inscribed by the Roberts to "Jesse E. Walker | with best wishes" on the title page and dated "1952". A tribute to Roberts by his publisher, Doubleday Doran with several articles by individuals reviewing his work. 40 pages. Accompanying this signed and inscribed copy is a signed, typed letter from Roberts to Jesse E. Walker containing a brief discussion of the last edition of March To Quebec and the fact that as of that date (Nov. 22, 1952) there had been no further changes to that title. The letter goes on to note that this copy of Kenneth Roberts an American Novelist is enclosed which contains "the automobile routes that mark, as nearly as possible, the marches in some of my books." Also included is the original envelope from Roberts to Walker.

Exterior is clean and attractive with minimal edge wear. Top page edges dyed rust. Front of pages deckled. Interior is unmarked, clear, and firmly bound. Scattered foxing and modest, even age toning throughout. DJ has a 3" closed tear at front/bottom near the spine, a missing1" x 3/4" peice at the top of the spine, and other moderate wear along the edges. Spine is also modestly sunned.

This is the third edition of the book with the addition of the John Pierce Journal. 722 pages including an index. Following his writing of Arundel, Roberts compiled the journals of the members of Arnold's expedition to attack Quebec through the wilds of what is now the Maine woods north into Canada in the dead of winter. As Roberts uncovered additional material he continued to add those journals and records to later publications of this title.
