POUND, Ezra. Lustra of Ezra Pound. Elkin Mathews, London, 1916.

Price: US$450.00 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: First edition, second impression (abridged text), with nine fewer poems and one altered title from the first impression [*Gallup* A11b: "about 800 copies printed"; in describing the reason for Lustra being abridged for the second impression, Gallup states: "The manuscript as submitted had been set in type. and Ezra Pound had received page-proof, when printer and publisher (apparently frightened by the suppression in the previous year of D. H. Lawrence's The Rainbow) refused, on grounds of the indecorum of certain poems, to continue with the book as set. It was eventually agreed that 200 copies would be printed 'almost unabridged'. These copies, although technically not published, were in fact sold by Elkin Mathews to those who requested the unabridged text when ordering the book. For the second impression, nine additional poems were omitted and one title altered.".]. Octavo. Tan cloth lettered in blue on front cover and up the spine and stamped in blue on back cover [NB: there was also a remainder binding with blind stamping on back cover]. 116pp. Frontispiece photogravure of Ezra Pound from a photograph by Alvin Langdon Coburn. Endpapers moderately foxed, binding slightly bumped at two corners, cloth bit dust soiled, lightly browned and dull, else a very good copy, issued without dust jacket.
