Price: US$70.00 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: The fourth book by classic mystery writer, James Cain--most noted for The Postman Always Rings Twice and Double Indemnity--is another fast-paced, breathless story that you cannot put down. With very uncommon first-edition dust jacket with original $2.00 price intact, this copy is flawed by having a stamp from a lending library on the first endpaper. Residue of tape that has been removed is on both the front and back boards and on the very end of the dust jacket flap, front and back; jacket shortened to fit into library plastic cover. Nonetheless, still attractive in a very good copy of the book that is both tight and clean internally.

CAIN, James M[allahan]. (1892-1977). Love's Lovely Counterfeit. Alfred A. Knopf, New York, 1942.

Price: US$424.00 + shipping

Condition: Fine

Description: First Edition (so stated) of Cain fifth novel. 8vo: [8],218,[2]pp. Publisher's ruby red cloth, spine and covers stamped in black, top edge stained matching red, other edges rough-trimmed; illustrated dust jacket by Bob Smith, priced $2.00. A superlative example (probably unread), slight fading to top edge, paste-downs stained from binder's glue, else virtually pristine, as is the jacket. A gangster-thriller, tough-guy novel, peopled with hoods, corrupt cops, and crime lords.
