A story of love and lunacy, attacking the Lunacy Acts, based on a real case 'which actually occurred in England some eight years since.' The Lotos Club was founded in the 1870s as a private members club; its members included Collins and Mark Twain - the latter contributed 'An encounter with an interviewer' to this volume. This volume was also published in the USA at Boston by W.F. Gill. Collins's speech at the Lotos Club is included in a volume published in 1901.
