Description: 1955. Third Impression. 248 pages. No dust jacket. Red cloth boards with white lettering to spine. Clean pages with light tanning and mild foxing throughout. More pronounced to free endpapers and pastedowns. Pen markings to front free endpaper. Binding remains firm. A few dog-eared corners with slight marks. Text block edges slightly nicked and scratched. Boards have mild edge-wear with slight rubbing to surfaces and bumping to corners. Moderate sunning to spine and edges with crushing to spine ends. Spine visibly sunned and foxed. Book has a forward lean. Visible wear marks, slight stains and blotchiness to boards. A small droplet mark to front.

Jacket unclipped (priced 12s 6d), moderately faded, rubbed and toned at edges with a few short tears, splits along spine folds neatly stabilized with archival tape, dampstaining to lower edge, but largely whole: Good. Golding's second novel after Lord of the Flies, dealing with the extinction of one of the last tribes of Neanderthals.
