ELIOT, T. S.. LITTLE GIDDING.. Faber and Faber 24 Russell Square., London, 1942.

Price: US$51.31 + shipping

Description: FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 9 x 6 inches. 16 pp. In limp pink card wrapper with black titles. Deckled fore edge. Slight sunning around spine, but otherwise a very good copy with a clean interior. First edition of the last of the Four Quartets, in the original wartime format. The poem has a theme of purgation by fire and reflects the experience of the Battle of Britain and the Blitz. Little Gidding in Huntingdonshire was the location of a small High Church Anglican community founded in 1626, dispersed in the Civil War and re-formed in 1657. As this first edition is a stapled copy, it is probably in the second state, as the first state was sewn. POETRY 20th CENTURY POETRY 20TH CENTURY POETRY
