Description: This arresting portrait is of the late 18th c. French painter Jacques Gamelin. It is part of a series of portraits Baskin did of artists. "Laus Pictorum". printed and published by Gehenna Press. It is editioned and signed in graphite at the lower margin: "XXIV/C Baskin". The original mat is blind-stamped with the title: "Jacques Gamelin". Image size 7 1/2" x 5 3/4" printed on a 14" x 11" sheet of paper.  Leonard Baskin (1922-2000), American artist and sculptor, founded Gehenna Press in 1942, one of the first fine art presses in the  United States. His prodigious output is held in most major art institutions, including: British Museum, Library of Congress, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum, etc. Condition: Fine condition.

Includes text on each portrait, wood engraving of a crow on pomingrate on colophon page. Signed colophon, folio, in leather backed clamshell case. Laid in promotional flayer reproducing all the print and promoting the publication. Prints and text in excellent condition, clam shell box shows very minor shelf wear.
