Light rubbing to the joints and extremities. Minor bumping to the extremities. Spine is a little discoloured. Prior owner's ink inscription to the verso to the front endpaper. Internally, pages are loose, as is usual with a gutta percha binding. Pages are lightly age-toned and clean with some odd spots. Good Only

Blue cloth boards, gilt and black illustration to front board, gilt lettering to spine. 2 slight red marks to front pastedown, previous owners pencilled signature to half title, some light foxing early and late. Boards are darkened to edges. Spine has been relaid and chipping to corners have also been repaired. These have been well done. A VG copy.

Internally, half title, not paginated but 64 leaves, containing, 2 music plates, 10 Botany Plates, 26 Alphabet Plates, and 8 illustrations within text, 1 pl soiled with small repair, text block edges sprinkled red, ink name to fep (Harvey), lacks adverts at end, recased. (Allibone 983). Lear published his last book of nonsense, Laughable Lyrics, which contained some of his finest, but also his saddest songs, including ‘The Pelican Chorus’, ‘The Yonghy-bonghy-bò’, and ‘The Dong with a Luminous Nose’ See ODNB.
