Description: Two volumes. Volume I has no spine and the rear panel is literally hanging on by a thread. Staining and discolouration to the boards with quite heavy edge wear and fraying along the edges. Tearing along the front endpapers with the webbing exposed. Binding very slack. Bookseller stamp to the front free endpaper. The pages are worn with browning at the edges and staining in several places. Volume II has some label residue over the top half of the front panel. Staining and discolouration to the boards with quite heavy edge wear and fraying along the edges. The spine is present but is torn down the right side next to the front panel and pulling away from the text block. Tearing along the front endpapers with the webbing exposed. Binding very slack. Bookseller stamp to the front free endpaper. The pages are worn with browning at the edges and staining in several places. Shields Library stamp to the final page of the text in both volumes. First printing.

Description: 1874. No Edition Remarks. 314 pages. No dust jacket. Decorative green cloth with gilt lettering. Boards and spine fully detached from text block; title page to page 2 also detached. Two volumes in one; second volume has no title page. Light water staining, foxing and tanning to pages and inside of binding spine; text unaffected. More prominent to text block edges, pastedowns and free endpapers. Light cracking to gutters but text block remains quite firmly together. Water staining to edges of pp1-18. Boards, totally detached from text block, have minor corner bumping and edgewear with moderate rubbing, fraying and scuffing overall. Spine has heavier tanning with visible splitting, fraying and crushing to joints and ends. Lettering remains bright and clear. Book has a slight forward lean. Boards rather rubbed and marked overall.
