Bound in three-quarter maroon morocco over red marbled boards, with gilt decorated and lettered spine. Top edge gilt, other edges untrimmed, marbled endpapers. Cyrillic bookseller's stamps to the rear endpaper, else clean and unmarked throughout in a tight and square binding. The leather worn at the tips and edges, the spine slightly sunned and lightly rubbed around the joints and spine ends, but overall a nice clean copy. With 10 coloured illustrations with captioned guards, by Edmund Dulac.

The binder, Ukraine-born (1885) and trained, Georges Levitsky emigrated to Paris in 1907 and set up his own shop in 1910.
