Description: Pierre Reverdy, George Braque. Paris Maeght 1959. Reverdy and Braque originally met in 1910 and collaborated on many artist books together. Reverdy finished the initial transcript for La Liberte Des Mers in 1954 and Braque completed his works for the book five years later. It was officially published just a month before the death of the poet. This book is limited to 250 copies of which this copy is one of the 200 in Arches vellum paper. It is signed in justification page by Braque and Reverdy, the portfolio includes seven full page lithographs in color including the front cover, by Braque, and many illustrations to accompany Pierre Reverdy text. Complete and guarded in the original publisher chemise and slipcase.

Description: The book, 1959, comprising seven lithographs printed in colours, and 60 lithographs in-texte, with title-page, text and justification, this copy signed in pencil by the artist and author, stamp numbered 94 from the edition of 250, on arches paper, printed by Mourlot, Paris, published by Maeght, Paris, the full sheets loose in the original linen covered boards and slipcase, overall size 570 x 400mm (22 3/8 x 15 3/4in). Slip-case heavily rubbed.

Loose quires as issued in orig. illus. covers, sleeve, and slipcase. Unnumbered publisher’s copy on grand vélin d’Arches, signed in the colphon by the artist and the author. This copy with ms. presentation on first blank leaf „en souvenir de notre cher ami Pierre Reverdy sincères amitiés guité [Marguerite?] Maeght le 19/6/70". This most important and impressive livre d’artiste by Georges Braque (1882–1963) was published in 200 + 50 copies. It was his third illustration of texts by Pierre Reverdy (1889–1960) after „Une aventure méthodique" (1949) and „Cercle doré" (1953).
