Description: The first edition, first impression copy of one of the most important collection of T.E. Lawrence's correspondence. The first impression of the first edition of this book comprising on of T.E. Lawrence's most important correspondence, with first printing issue points "Baltic" on page 182 later corrected to "Balkan" and T.E.L. on page 495, later corrected to T.E.S. Edited by British writer David Garnett.T.E. Lawrence was a British archeologist, army officer, diplomat and writer, mostly known for his role in the Arab Revolt (1916-18) and the Sinai Palestine Campaign (1915-1918) against the Ottoman Empire. He was very significant in the development of strategies as well as the liaison with British army forces. This work covers Lawrence's whole career, from when he was a boy with an interest for archeology, until his death in 1935, in his own words through letters and previously unpublished documents and reports.In the publisher's original tan cloth binding, with titles stamped in gilt to spine. Complete with frontispiece and fifteen illustration as well as four maps, two of which folded in. Inscribed by previous owner to front free endpaper "To J.M.H on her 18th birthday, love mum + dad" undated. Previous owner has inked over title and added the title of "Col." to T.E. Lawrence on title page. In the publisher's original tan cloth binding, with titles stamped in gilt to spine. Minor shelfwear and slight bumping to spine, otherwise externally very smart. Spine is slightly faded. Internally, firmly bound. Minor faint spotting to endpapers, otherwise pages are bright and clean. Complete with frontispiece and fifteen illustration as well as four maps, two of which folded in. Inscribed by previous owner to front free endpaper "To J.M.H on her 18th birthday, love mum + dad" undated. Previous owner has inked over title and added the title of "Col." to T.E. Description: 6 ¼ in. x 9 ¼ in. 896 pp. including index. Illustrated, including maps. Light brown cloth with gilt titling and designs on the spine. Top edge stained orange-brown. Tan paper dust jacket with printing in orange, red, and black, with the price present but all four inner corners are clipped. Spine shows light fading, light spotting on the covers along the spine. Dust jacket shows a tear to the lower back panel. Top and bottom margins of the inside of the dust jacket have been repaired with masking tape. On front free end-paper there is a Wayne Garcia bookplate of John Scopazzi. Weight is 3 lbs. Postage may be extra on this item.

Description: A very good copy of the first edition, second impression in a very good d/w that has closed tear to top hinge and some minor creasing. Included is an interesting 2pp letter from David Garnett tipped in which makes it a particularly special copy. The letter discusses some mistakes that occurred within the text of the book. It seems likely that the letter was written in either 1942 or 1943 on New Oxford Street Letter headed paper and is in the hand of and signed by David Garnett. Still one of the best sources of information on T.E. compiled soon after TE's death by David Garnett. 896pp. O'Brien A202
