Lawrence was born on 16th August 1888 in Tremadog in Wales. He was one of five illegitimate children born to the Seventh Baron of Westmeath. His exploits earned him the title of "Lawrence of Arabia" back in Britain.Her resigned in 1922 and sought anonymity in the RAF where he enlisted as John Hume Ross. He later changed his name by deed poll to T.E. Shaw. Shortly after retiring from the RAF, T.E. Lawrence died in a motorcycle accident on 19th May 1935. Tan paper dust jacket with printing in orange, red, and black, with the price present but all four inner corners are clipped. Spine shows light fading, light spotting on the covers along the spine. Dust jacket shows a tear to the lower back panel. Top and bottom margins of the inside of the dust jacket have been repaired with masking tape. Description: A very good copy of the first edition, second impression in a very good d/w that has closed tear to top hinge and some minor creasing. Included is an interesting 2pp letter from David Garnett tipped in which makes it a particularly special copy. The letter discusses some mistakes that occurred within the text of the book. It seems likely that the letter was written in either 1942 or 1943 on New Oxford Street Letter headed paper and is in the hand of and signed by David Garnett.
