Third edition, revised. The revised third edition (the last and best edition). The text was edited from the notebooks of Hearn's students who attended his lectures on poets delivered at the Imperial University of Tokyo between 1896 and 1903. This edition includes most of Hearn's lectures on English poets, eight of which are first published here. This is the second volume (of three) of the "Complete Lecture" series. See BAL 8028. Description: A very nice example of Japanese book production Western style. The compiler was Hearn's last student at the University of Tokyo in 1901 who attended these lectures twice, and wrote up his notes to extraordinarily good effect thirty-nine years later. They really do seem to convey Hearn's thinking in detail, and it is said that he wrote down every word and faithfully copied the diagrams. 500copies printed.

Description: 181pp. Duodecimo [18.5 cm] Dark red cloth covered boards with printed paper title labels on the spine and front cover. Very good. The cloth on the front board has multiple ripples. The largest ripples are about 1/2 of an inch wide by 1/2 inch thick. The spine ends and edges of the covers are lightly rubbed. Very minor spine lean. There is a bookseller's tiny label on the front free endsheet. Tanned pages. In a very good dust jacket. Ever so slightly soiled. The spine is mildly darkened. There is a date and price written in pencil on the front inside flap. One of 500 copies. Lafcadio Hearn was a well-known journalist, author, educator, translator, and interpreter of Japanese life.
