Collated complete. At the rear of the work is four pages of publisher's advertisements and seventeen pages listing Cassell & Company's other published works.King Solomon's Mines is a thrilling adventure novel that tells the story of an expedition through an untrodden region of Africa. Sir Henry Rider Haggard was a British writer specialising in romantic adventure novels often set in exotic settings, predominantly Africa, and is considered the father of the 'lost world' literary genre. This work, in particular, is considered one of the earliest examples of the genre. In original maroon cloth binding, with decorative illustrations on the spine and front and back board. Externally, minor bumping to head and tail of spine, otherwise very smart. Floral end papers with offsetting to free front and end papers. Ink inscription on front end paper and bookseller label to front paste down. Internally, generally firmly bound with bright and clean papers, with the odd spot. Illustrated folding map has a small closed tear, approximately 1 inch. Contemporary ink inscription on back of half title. Very Good
