Description: A first edition copy of this charming work, containing instructions for playing numerous different games, popular during the Victorian Era. This work was written by Kate Greenaway, a renowned Victorian artist and writer best known for her children's book illustrations. Collated, complete with twenty four coloured full-page plates, engraved and printed in colour by Edmund Evans, a prominent English wood-engraver and colour printer during the Victorian era. This copy is undated, dated using Copac. In the original binding, with blue cloth spine with pictorial card boards. Externally generally smart with bumping and rubbing to extremities. Slight rubbing to spine and head and tail of spine. Hinges slightly strained but reasonably firm. Internally firmly bound. Pages slightly age toned but bright and clean, with the odd spot only to first and last few pages. Very Good

All edges tinted yellow. Blue cloth covered boards with title stamped in black and gold to upper cover; additionally, a picture of two boys playing with a top and a picture of a group of girls playing blind man's buff, all stamped in colors on the upper cover; rubbing to the corners and to the head and tail of spine and some rippling to the cloth on the lower cover. Yellow endpapers. 63, [1] pp. Neat gift inscription dated 1889 on the half title. This is a wonderful book with the instructions for playing fifty-three different games popular during the Victorian Era, many of which have since been long forgotten; twenty-four of the games are illustrated with a full color drawing by Greenaway of children playing the game; the twenty-four full page plates were engraved and printed in colors by Edmund Evans. The condition of the book is VERY GOOD +.
