Beautiful book written by Elbert Hubbard and Alice Hubbard with orange and black woodcut prints designed by William Joseph "Dard" Hunter. Elbert Hubbard (1856-1915) was an American writer, philosopher, publisher, and businessman. He was inspired by William Morris (1834-1896), an English textile designer, writer, and social activist who is associated with the British Arts and Crafts movement. Elbert opened the Roycroft Press in 1893 and opened the Roycroft Shops and founded the Roycroft artist community in 1895. Alice Hubbard (1861-1915) was married to Elbert and was a feminist and writer. Dard Hunter (1883-1966) was an American authority on printmaking and papermaking. Hunter was active in the Arts and Crafts movement, the style of which can be seen in the prints and typesetting of this book, and began his career at one of Elbert Hubbard's Roycroft Shops. Hunter was with the Roycrofters from 1904-1910. The book is a dramatic play about the ancient Byzantine emperor and empress, Justinian and Theodora.
