Description: Very good, clean, tight, and square fourteen volumes bound into two volumes, unabridged republication of the 1906 Houghton Mifflin edition. Bound in green cloth with gilt titles. Both volumes are rubbed but not frayed at forecorners, head and foot of spine, with light soiling on page edges, PO's stamp on front free endpapers, and embossed initial on title page. Volume I has 1/2" cosmetic bump to upper forecorner of front cover, otherwise both volumes are unmarked and fine. Contains a new forward by Walter Harding, Secretary, the Thoreau Society, and a photo of one page of the manuscript journal. Volumes combined have 1804 pages. Description: First edition thus, two volume hardcover set, both books have a small lean or skew to their binding, light bumps to their spine ends and cover corners, some small smudges to the edges of their text block, and a touch of mild creasing to some of their pages (short verical creasing to center of tail of last several pages of Vol. I & thin horizontal creasing to a few pages of Vol. II). Additionally, the binding of Vol. I is a bit loose but remains completely solid throughout, and has a tiny black spot to head of last 20 pages. Otherwise a solid VG two volume set in VG+ unclipped dust jackets, which both have light bumps to their spine ends and corners, slight rubbing to the covers, and minor edgewear, while the jacket of Vol. I also has faint sunning to the spine and cover edges, and a thin vertical crease along rear fold. Both jackets were wrapped in removable Mylar covers after being photographed - additional images available upon request.
