Description: The first publication of a Facsimile of the illuminated book: Jerusalem, by William Blake, by the Trianon Press under the supervision of Arnold Fawcus and Patrick Macleod with the Illuminated pages being reproduced by Daniel Jacomet and printed on rag paper. This copy is numbered 242 of 516 total copies. Bound in custom deep blue leather with gilt spine titling, folio, unpag. Housed in matching blue cloth slipcase. This copy is custom bound by Sangorski & Sutcliffe of London, for Sir Maxwell Stirling with his coat of arms in gilt to outer covers. The original copy of the book of Jerusalem was owned by Col. William Stirling, of whom Maxwell is a relative. (slight sunning to spine, minimal slight wear to extremities, sunning to endpaper edges, bookplate to inside cover, slight rubbing and wear to slipcase at corners). Folding box with short split in linen at head and foot of opening hinge, box with a couple of other piffling scuffs, else a very fine copy of a large and vulnerable item. Includes 100 superb hand-coloured plates. The first of the superb Trianon Press Blake Facsimiles : 'The final result bears the closest possible resemblance to Blake's original plates'. Edition Limited to 516 numbered copies : superbly printed on a pure rag paper especially manufactured to match the original paper used by Blake. The earliest, and one of the most important and most admired of the Trianon Press Facsimiles, it was taken from the only complete copy of Jerusalem to have been hand-printed and hand-coloured by William Blake himself. ** The Raymond Lister Copy : with the discreet and very attractive little book label of Pamela & Raymond Lister in the Cambridge calligraphic style of Reynolds Stone / Will Carter / David Kindersley. Raymond Lister, a President of the Royal Society of Miniature Painters, was an important scholar of Blake and his followers. Lister was closely involved in work with Sir Geoffrey Keynes, Arnold Fawcus of the Trianon Press and the Blake Trust.
