Very Good with a hint of rubbing to the corners and staining to the front gutter.

Laid in is an eight page "Addenda" dated 1942 and tied in string. At head of title: The Walpole society. "Two hundred and fifty numbered copies of this book . were printed . in October, 1939. This copy is number 90". Top edge gilt. A nearly perfect and handsome copy.

Description: First (only) edition. 4to. Very good copy. Limited edition of 250 numbered copies "of which the first thirty have been specially bound, signed, and reserved for the members of the Walpole Society"; this is copy no. 11, but it appears to be in the usual binding and is not signed. Perhaps in fact no such copies were issued. In-text illustrations and numerous photographic plates. Portrait of Nathaniel Hurd reproduced in color tipped in as frontispiece. In addition to dealing with the Hurds' work as silversmiths, there is an extensive section devoted to prints, ephemera, and bookplates engraved by Nathaniel Hurd, who was also a goldsmith.
