Description: A first edition of Bryan Robertson's compelling chronicle of the great twentieth-century artist Jackson Pollock, with 169 photographic illustrations. A first edition copy of this comprehensive chronicle of the life and work of Jackson Pollock. First published in 1960, with a second impression published in 1968. With 169 photographic illustrations, including 36 hand-mounted full colour plates. Collated complete. Curated by Bryan Robertson, this work is a detailed and captivating account of one of the twentieth-century's greatest artists, Jackson Pollock. It includes a biographical note, a select bibliography, and a selection of writings by the artist. Bryan Robertson was an English curator and arts manager. He became the Director of the Whitechapel Art Gallery in 1952, and gave a major presentation of works by Jackson Pollock; the exhibition's opening night had to be controlled by police due to popularity. In publisher's original black cloth binding with gilt titles and original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, very smart. The odd mark to boards. Decorative endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally clean and bright. Several colour photographic plates are coming away from paper, but all present. Small tear on page 21. Dust wrapper is sound. The wrap has several closed tears to extremities, especially to front. Slight sunning and the odd spot to reverse of wrap. Near Fine
