Illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of Joyce and a photograph of the first page of Ulysses in text. A few spots and to the paper. The cloth spine is worn and a little faded. Toning to the right front flyleaf and rear flyleaf. "Isseido" small red bookseller label in the upper left corner of the front paste down. Number 168 hand written under the title page. A vertical line of Asian language characters written in light pen on the blank verso of the frontispiece. First published in New York by B. W. Huebsch 1924. Reissued by Viking Press and B. W. Huebsch in 1925. Published in England by Geoffrey Bles in 1926 with American sheets but a new title page (John Slocums' Bibliography of James Joyce page 76).

Photographic portrait frontispiece. Edges a little spotted, and the top edge dust soiled. Some light partial toning to the free endpapers. A very good copy in the most uncommon dust wrapper, lightly dust soiled, with some quite noticeable toning to the spine panel, and a touch of wear to several extremities with a single miniscule area of loss to the base of the spine panel. The first full-length study of Joyce, published four years after 'Ulysses'.
