Izis' photo book documenting London during the Queen's Coronation. Izis Bidermanas was a Lithuanian photographer active in France for most of his life. In 1953 he turned his lens onto London to capture the celebrations and festival atmosphere of the capital during the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. His photographs include local decorations, street sellers, Pearly Kings, dressing-up, a caged Eros, adorned London landmarks, Guards, and revellers. Izis brings an outsider's view to the images, following in the footsteps of Bill Brandt and employing the decisive moment of Cartier-Bresson. The poet and journalist John Pudney provides the text.
