The book was originally intended to revive Hemingway's reputation after the negative reviews of Across the River and Into the Trees. He began writing it in 1950 and advanced greatly through 1951. The work, rough but seemingly finished, was found by Mary Hemingway among 332 works Hemingway left behind at his death. [The book] was meant to encompass three stories to illustrate different stages in the life of its main character, Thomas Hudson. The titles in the three different parts of the novel were changed into what are now its three actis: "Bimini:, "Cuba", and At Sea". - from wikipedia dot org. "Charles Scribner, Jr. and I worked together preparing this book for publication from Ernest's original manuscript. Beyond the routine chores of correcting spelling and punctuation, we made some cuts in the manuscript, I feel [VERO BEACH BOOKS NOTE: the work "feeling" is used in the "Note", probably a misprint] that Ernest would surely have made them himself. The book is all Ernest's We have added nothing to it. Mary Hemingway" - from the Note.

Dust jacket with the price of $10.00. Map endpages. First Edition, First Printing with Scribner's code "A-9.70 (V)" on copyright page. Islands in the Stream is the first of the posthumously published novels of Ernest Hemingway. The book was originally intended to revive Hemingway's reputation after the negative reviews of Across the River and Into the Trees. He began writing it in 1950 and advanced greatly through 1951. First published in 1970, nine years after Ernest Hemingway's death, Islands in the Stream is the story of an artist and adventurer, a man much like Hemingway himself. Rich with the uncanny sense of life and action characteristic of his writing - from his earliest stories this compelling novel contains both the warmth of recollection that inspired A Moveable Feast and a rare glimpse of Hemingway's rich and relaxed sense of humor, which enlivens scene after scene.
