Description: The jacket has a 1cm chip at the bottom and the top of the spine, there are also a few small chips and closed tears. There is slight water mark discoloration on the spine and back of the jacket. The boards are a touch edge worn and there is some discoloration on the spine and top edges of the book. The first edition of Intruder in the Dust by William Faulkner in the original publisher's cloth binding and unclipped dust wrapper.This detective novel provides social commentary on racial tensions in America in the mid twentieth century from the perspective of a morally conflicted protagonist.William Faulkner is an American author and was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1949. In the original publisher's cloth binding and unclipped dust wrapper. The dust wrapper is worn, with some missing to where it sits on the head of the spine and the upper extremities. The binding is slightly discoloured to the spine. There is some minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. There is some slight spotting to the fore edge. The front hinge is starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with some occasional spotting to the pastedowns and the endpapers. Very Good

In Sydney Greenwood's pictorial dust jacket with deep strains of the Southern Gothic: spine and rear panel browned, joints tender, various losses, with largest, sadly, to front panel, with top half of 'Int' in Intruder lacking. Modest offsetting on front fly from the jacket flaps, a bump and a little sunning at the top of the front panel near the crown, else near fine in modestly spine-toned, very good or better dust jacket with faint toning on the spine and a little curled at the edges. A nice copy of the very uncommon English edition of this novel about murder and the mass mind, the popularity of which was instrumental in gaining Faulkner the Nobel Prize. Basis for the 1949 Clarence Brown film. Despite a lack of stars, this was considered one of the most powerful films about racial prejudice ever made. *Haycraft-Queen Cornerstone*.
