Charles Darwin, The Origin of Species A rare first American edition of Charles Darwin s Insectivorous Plants . This book was a study of Darwin s experiments and observations on carnivorous plants, paying special attention to the conditions in which they lived. His most important finding was that these insect-eating plants only reacted to the movements of animals, not the prodding of a researcher. He also discovered many of the different ways these plants catch their prey, such as sticky substances, or hinged mouth-like leaves.
