Short pieces not originally intended for publication, these journals came from trips he took in 1941 and 1959, which gave him material for the Heart of the Matter and A Burnt Out Case. Greene here tells how the notes developed into these books, which were among of his most successful. An interesting study of a writer's craft. This copy is unmarked and unclipped, with only one small closed tear to the jacket, and minor chipping at its lower edge. Very good condition in slightly worn dust jacket.

This was Julian Jebb's copy (Literary critic and film producer) with his signed book plate to front endpaper. Two journals that greene wrote on trips to the Belgian Congo in 1959 and to West Africa in 1941 which were used for the basis of his novels A Burnt Out Case and The Heart of the Matter. Enclosed is a letter from Jebb's partner explaining the background to the collection he was disposing of. A Very Good copy in a Very Good dustjacket with light edge wear. Covers slightly faded.
