Description: This is an actual 1926 Hardcover edition Published by Leonard & Virginia Woolf at The Hogarth Press, 52 Tavistock Square, London, W.C.I 1926. No dust jacket. Spine is torn, heavily rubbed, chipped and shows high rubbing and wear. None of the original text or markings remain and spine is now the brick red of the underboards. Outside edges show some HEAVY chipping, rubbing, degredation and flaking. Overall this book shows some heavy wear on spine and edges and definitely shows it's age. Pages are browned from age but overall in good condition. Some underlining, notes, sidelining and marks in the margins in pencil.

Small green Gotham Book Mart (NYC) sticker on back board. Published by writers and Bloomsbury Group founding members Virginia & Leonard Woolf, it includes two additional essays, "Rochester" by Bonamy Dobree and "Impenetrability" by Robert Graves. Publishers' pale green paper-covered boards with black titles to spine and "Hogarth Essays Second Series" and decoration to boards. Covers largely faded to brown, with small loss at spine tips and wear to corners. Endpapers lightly toned, with pencilled ownership signature of one 'A. Valette' to ffep; scattered light foxing, mainly to endpapers and prelims, otherwise contents clean and crisp. Scarce essay on the English language and its uses, by the British author and poet.
