Harry Belafonte, James Porter, Benjamin Horowitz. IMAGES OF DIGNITY, THE DRAWINGS OF CHARLES WHITE. Ward Ritchie Press, Los Angeles, California, 1967.

Price: US$1500.00 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: Softbound, octavo, 121 pages, illustrated. Condition good-very good overall, binding tight, with light signs of wear. Compared to the original edition this copy has an added page bound in at the front of the book apparently c/o the Golden State Mutual Life Insurance Company (founded in 1925 and once the largest black-owned insurance company in the western United States). Following the introductory text are facsimile signatures of Norman O. Houston (Chairman and Chief Executive Officer) and Edgar J Johnson (President and Chief Administrative Officer). To excerpt from that page, "The selection of drawings and paintings symbolizes the pride that we feel as a Company and as Americans. -- Many of us do not know the history of the black people- and many of us are just beginning to know it. -- The black people do have a past, a past of nobility and grandeur- of triumph and tragedy, of folly and futility- to which Charles White, his paintings and drawings, speak with eloquence and compassion." I can find no reference to this particular version of the book either online or in WorldCat.
