Description: Narrow 8vo. Pp. 37, [9]. Frontis engraved portrait and view of the dramatist's birthplace during the jubilee procession of September 6, 1769. Modern half blue-green cloth bound over marbled paper covered boards, original morocco label laid down. Six wood engraved vignettes from each play printed recto on each of thirty-seven leaves, the unnumbered thirty-eighth with "The Seven Ages of Man" vignettes from As You Like It. With tissue guards. Followed by pp. 8 of Fleischer advertising with descriptions in German of works in English, Italian and Spanish dated October 1825. Moderate foxing to tissue guards, minimal foxing to printed leaves. Else crisp and bright. The most distinguished wood engraver of his time, Thompson executed more than 900 Thurston designs beginning in 1814. First issued the year prior. A handsome copy.
