Paper pastedown titling on front boards. Inner front hinges cracked but not split. Top edges gilt, other edges are untrimmed. In edge rubbed DJs with age tanning on spine and top edges, minor chipping. Gray silk bookmark bound inside. 20 mounted color plates, including guards, from watercolor drawings by W. Russell Flint. ; Drawings; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 92 & 28 pages; Theocritis - 3rd century BC Greek poet, known for Idyls. Bion - 2nd century BC from Smyrna and Moschus - 150BC are often linked together.

Description: Two volumes. xxxv; 92; xi; 28 pages, rough cut page edges top edge in gilt. 17 mounted colour plates (one tissue guard lightly creased). Original light blue paper covered boards with buckram spine with printed paper title labels on the upper cover and spines (spare labels tipped-in at the rear of the volumes).Very light water stain to lower corner of a few pages to the rear of volume two. In complete but sun affected dust wrappers. With the near contemporary ownership inscription of Arthur M. Kelly lightly pencilled on the endpaper. A magnificent set.

Housed in custom-made slipcase. Vellum boards wrinkled with some spotting along bottom edge of volume II. Bindings are sound. Dampstaining along bottom edge of many tissue guards; pages otherwise unmarked. Overall a Very Good, attractive set.
