Description: Good + / -- Scarce. First printing of this illustrated edition. 24 photographs by Francis Frith. Gilt titles to spine and upper cover with ornate gilt decorations to upper and lower covers on blue leather bevelled boards. 5 raised bands to spine. All edges gilt. Marbled end papers. Binding is firm and tight although there is a crack at the joint between the spine and the upper cover. Scuff mark at head of lower cover. Occasional tanning / spotting throughout text. No inscriptions. Not ex-library.

The book is notable for its direct associationof landscape photographs as non-literal visual ideas of literary ideas.
