Description: Frontis; illus. by Hogarth, 6.5 x 3.5", decorative full calf, raised bands, xvi, 142, 400 + index. Covers very well worn, scorch marks, lacks spine labels, front cover, ffep and frontis detached, ink name (Geo. Jackson 1744), textblock cracked and almost in two pieces, offsetting to pastedowns, occasional soiling and foxing else good. Textblock tight. Nine Hogarth plates of which four are double. SWAF.

Description: 1739 edition for 25 people. Rear board detached, front board almost so, wear to edges and spine ends as image. Insc on prelim and another on title page. Generally clean and little used but animal activity on a fair number of pages with resultant small holes. Frontis then nine etchings by Hogarth of which four are folding. Some ageing throughout. Pagination odd, having numbered each part, they extended them with annotations etc but did not revise them, so we have "i" through to p142, then 127 to 214 and 197 to 400. There are no 149 to 166 (text is continuous numbered lines) Must make using the index difficult. Covid 19 - Please note "More Information" for current shipping terms. With nine rococo, baroque era plates, four folding by William Hogarth. William Hogarth FRSA was an English painter, printmaker, pictorial satirist, social critic, and editorial cartoonist. Hudibras is an English mock-heroic narrative poem from the 17th century written by Samuel Butler.
