Harper and Brothers edition with the same covers as the first, red cloth with gilt and black titles and decorations. copyright 1897 with no mention of edition or further printings. list of titles in the 'Uniform Edition of Mark Twain's Works' on the copyright page. VG- copy with a bit of wear at the tips. there is a bump to the base of the spine that smudged the Harper name. the binding is quite solid and the pages are straight and free of marks. previous owner's name is embossed on the front endsheet.

Boards and spine moderately dulled and soiled, with the font a bit rubbed to background color of title panel. Minor wear to the extremities, gilt on top edge of the textblock has a scuff spot; spine very slightly cocked; hinges tight; ownership inscriptions on front end paper dated 1901 and 1950; pages excellent condition otherwise.
